MSNBC quietly rolled out a new name this weekend: “MS NOW.” It lands somewhere between a tech startup and a dating app for the gender-confused. NBC even spun the channel off so it doesn’t have to keep cleaning up after its lawsuits and political tantrums. A rebrand doesn’t fix the product.
And sure enough, it didn’t.
Less than five hours after launch, they were back at it. On Ali Velshi’s show, Yale professor Jason Stanley compared Trump-era ICE agents to the Nazi Brownshirts during Kristallnacht — a night when synagogues were burned, Jews were murdered, and tens of thousands were dragged to concentration camps. His point was that local police should defy federal law and protect people from “lawless” ICE. Velshi went along with it and warned viewers about possible “armed confrontations” in sanctuary cities.
Just the same old playbook by the press. And in the case of MS NOW vs MS THEN, it’s “meet the new boss, same as the old boss.” When they don’t like someone enforcing immigration laws, they reach for Hitler. President Trump, Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, ICE — they all get thrown into the same bucket. They don’t seem to care that this kind of rhetoric has already contributed to two assassination attempts on Donald Trump or attacks on ICE agents. They just keep pushing it.
